Six weeks out from release, Marvel has stopped releasing Avengers: Doomsday artwork in any orderly sense and has simply started letting it fall from the sky, like weather. The latest downpour arrived on Friday via the card game Marvel Snap and quickly took over X. It shows Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom alongside one of the film’s mysterious Latverian Witches, with what appears to be a first look at Doom’s personal bodyguard, the Doom Guard. The same batch pairs heroes from different corners of the multiverse: Sue Storm and Namor heading underwater together, and Reed Richards fighting alongside the X-Men’s Beast. Two genius scientists in one frame means at least one argument about methodology before anybody throws a punch.
The art is doing the rounds on X via accounts such as Cosmic Marvel and MCU Film News. Here’s Cosmic Marvel’s post of the new Doom art:

The Sue Storm and Namor card has caused rather more mirth than menace, because in the version going round, the Sub-Mariner’s arm appears to have been borrowed from Mister Fantastic. The explanation is duller. Marvel Snap cards are built in layers so the picture shifts as you tilt your phone, and once the art is lifted out of the card, the layers don’t quite line up. It’s merely the latest wave of a flood. Earlier in the week came a set of circular portraits giving Doom, the Thing, Cyclops, Magneto, Mystique, Nightcrawler, Ant-Man, Black Panther and Gambit the same treatment, like the world’s most dangerous school photograph. Late October brought Doom enthroned at the top of a vast stone staircase in his throne room, followed by a stained-glass Doom with slogans such as “Doom Has No Rivals”, “Doom Supreme” and “Doom Does Not Beg”. Then there’s Jeep, whose tie-in advert appears to show Doom wiping Xavier’s School off the map in a burst of green fire. Jeep declines to say whether any of its vehicles actually appear in the film. Doom, one assumes, travels by time platform.

The stained glass is, in fairness, perfectly in character. Victor von Doom has always regarded himself as a cathedral with a man inside, and Latveria has never been short of statues of its monarch. Seen that way, Marvel’s campaign isn’t really advertising at all. It’s Latverian civic decoration rolled out worldwide, with a socks advent calendar for the British market thrown in. Doom does not beg, but he will apparently let you put your feet inside him for twelve days of Christmas.
The usual caveat applies. Promo art is drawn months in advance for toy firms and licensees, and it doesn’t always match what ends up on screen. The witches, in particular, remain one of the film’s better-kept secrets, even after DiscussingFilm’s late-October post of Doom flanked by them. That hasn’t stopped fans casting Wanda Maximoff among them on the strength of a single poster, which, as several replies point out, isn’t an official one. Treat that as rumour until the Russo brothers say otherwise.
Avengers: Doomsday opens in cinemas on 18 December 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on 17 December 2027. At the current rate, by the time the film opens there won’t be a flat surface left on Earth without Doom’s face on it. Which, to be fair to the man, is precisely how he would have wanted it.
