Konami has barely finished confiscating cards from the October banlist, and already it’s proposing something to put back in your binder. The next of the anime-themed “Maze” boosters for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game is Maze of Machines, which lands on 19 March 2027 in North America, with European listings putting it a day earlier. If you’re wondering what machines are doing in a maze, the answer is that Konami has a naming scheme and sticks to it.

The set contains 153 cards, sold in packs of seven. The centrepiece is a bundle of DARK Machines inspired by the Duelist Kingdom deck of Bandit Keith, the brash American champion with a fondness for gambling. The cover card is Rampant Barrel Dragon, a Fusion Monster in the great Barrel Dragon tradition of flipping coins to decide who gets shot. It’s joined by Pendulum Machine of Misery and Slot Machine 777, which gives the whole set the air of a seaside amusement arcade, and we mean that as a compliment. The set also brings the game’s first Heavy Metal archetype support to the TCG.

Keith isn’t the only name checked. There is new support for Cubic, Marincess and Ghostrick decks, plus ten cards from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, including cards used by Jaden Yuki. The collector side is catered for as ever, with Collector’s Rares, extended-art versions and a Starlight Rare, plus the usual risk of spending more on foils than on a decent dinner. A box of 24 packs carries a suggested price of $107.76, so pocket money will not stretch very far.

Here at SFcrowsnest magazine, we’ve always had a soft spot for any card game where a man in a leather coat can win a duel by shouting at a dragon, so we can only applaud a set that revives one of Duelist Kingdom’s loudest villains.
