Something large is apparently swimming towards the Outlands. On Sunday night the official Apex Legends account on X posted a 16-second teaser with the line “Something big is coming…”, and within minutes a good half of the player base had decided it was Godzilla.
Their evidence is not nothing. The clip opens on a single Apex logo glowing blue in the dark, which multiplies into a winding row of spikes that recedes through the smoke, a shape that looks a great deal like a set of dorsal plates heading out to sea. Anyone who has watched the big lad’s back light up before he unleashes his atomic breath will recognise the colour scheme. What the teaser does not contain is a name, a date, a roar or any logo but Apex’s own, and neither Respawn nor EA has confirmed a collaboration. For now this is a guess, if a well-educated one.

The timing is certainly suspicious. The new Apex season, Cipher, launches on 3 November with an Akimbo Wingman, a rework for Crypto and Legend bans in ranked. On the same day Godzilla Minus Zero opens in Japanese cinemas, a remaster of Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee hits consoles and PC, and the King of the Monsters turns 72, the original film having premiered on 3 November 1954. If you were a marketing department hoping to borrow a radioactive lizard, this would be the week to ask.
It would not be his first battle royale either. Godzilla and King Kong stomped through Call of Duty: Warzone in 2022’s Operation Monarch, and he turned up in Fortnite for the start of its Japanese-themed Chapter 6. Apex itself has been on a crossover spree, from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to a Mobile Suit Gundam event back in March, so a skyscraper-sized reptile would hardly be out of place in a game that already lets you bring a Buster Sword to a gunfight.
Respawn could yet pull the rug out and reveal something else entirely. Apex has its own giant Leviathans wading about in Kings Canyon, and one of those with ideas above its station would fit the teaser just as well. But if this turns out to be a kaiju-sized wind-up at the fans’ expense, it is a cruel one to pull in Godzilla’s birthday week. Here at SFcrowsnest we’re keeping the Oxygen Destroyer handy, just in case.
