Ant-tastic! Michael Giacchino’s “Them!” reboot will have you shrieking with fear (film news).
Get ready to be terrified by giant, killer ants all over again! Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino, known for his work on franchises including Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, DC, and Pixar, is set to make a giant leap into the world of film directing with a reboot of the 1954 classic sci-fi film Them!
For those unfamiliar with the original, itโs about giant, killer ants that terrorize the United States after being infected with radiation and growing to massive proportions. Itโs the kind of movie that makes you rethink that picnic in the park. But fear not, because Giacchino has big plans for his version of Them!, which he will also score. In a recent interview with Deadline, he revealed that the film will focus on immigration and use the ants as a metaphor for โthe otherโ and the unknown.
โThe current version of Them! is about immigration, and to tell a story about the subject through a lens of this insane science fiction monster movie,โ he teased. Itโs an ambitious and timely theme, and we canโt wait to see how Giacchino brings it to life with his signature blend of horror and sci-fi.
Giacchino is no stranger to the world of film scoring, having worked on basically every major geek franchise out there. Heโs won an Oscar (for Up) and has five films coming out in 2022 alone that he scored the music for: The Batman, Jurassic World Dominion, Thor: Love and Thunder, Lightyear, and Werewolf by Night. He also directed the Marvel Studios special Werewolf By Night, so heโs definitely no stranger to the horror genre.
Giacchino is currently meeting with writers to get a script for Them! underway, and while itโs still a ways off, we have a feeling itโs going to be worth the wait. The director has been honing his skills for years, with several short films under his belt, and we have no doubt heโll bring his passion and expertise to the project.
So get ready for some giant, killer ants on the big screen once again โ and this time with a fresh twist! We canโt wait to see what Michael Giacchino has in store for us with Them!
Hopefully this wont suck as bad as most remakes. The original film was supposed to have big battles in the streets between the army and the ants that got cut along with color film . Maybe weโll get to see that in the remake.
