Back Issue Annual # 1 2026 (magazine review)
In the second introduction, publisher John Morrow points out that he did have plans to do a ‘Neal Adams Collector’ or a ‘Will Eisner Collector’ based on the success he had with the ‘Jack Kirby Collector’. Unlike the later at the time, these two artists were still alive and so he chose a more general ‘Comic Book Artist’ instead. So, a ‘Back Issue Annual’ devoted to reprinting four issues of ‘Back Issues’ material featuring Adams’ material seems appropriate, especially as they’re amongst the hard-to-get issues. This is also the third time in print for two of the interviews as these also appeared abridged in ‘The Batman Companion’ and ‘The Superman Companion’. It focuses on Adams work at DC Comics and his own Continuity titles. I hope there is a successor looking at his work at Marvel as it seems crazy to leave that out and how I discovered him in the first place.
I thought I’d re-read the interviews and see how much I remembered from the first time around and whether I picked up various magazines. Oddly, it was from Back Issue # 143 where Michael Kronenberg interviewed Adams and a look at Ra’s al Ghul that struck me the first time as now.
If you haven’t got Back Issues # 45; 143; 18 & 94 in your collection, then this is probably the cheapest way to get their Adams material and art.
