Batman: Volume 7: Endgame [The New 52] by Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Danny Miki and Fco Plascencia (graphic novel review).
The Batman finds himself battling the Justice League—not as a team, but individually—as he realizes they have all been conquered by one of the Joker’s formulas.
The Joker has his face back, though there’s no explanation for this until much later in the seventh graphic novel, Endgame. The creators bring in many elements from the general Batman mythology but don’t always show how they were discovered, unless it’s covered in other The New 52 Batman books. This Joker is especially vicious, and he knows the real identities of the Batman family. He’s turned Gotham City into chaos, so much so that even Batman’s adversaries have joined forces with the Bat family to help turn things around. That should indicate just how dire the situation is.
This review has to be brief on the synopsis because so much is spoiler-filled and tragic at the end. Writer Scott Snyder incorporates many new elements, like the Court of Owls, making the story more integral to this reality. Ultimately, you’re here for the ride rather than to ponder all the possibilities.
