Gen V: back to school and primed for carnage? (season 2 trailer)

Sharpen your pencils and don your capes, because Gen V is heading back to class—and this time, it’s less “university hijinks” and more “military boot camp meets end-of-days prep.” The second season of Amazon’s explosively grotesque and gleefully cynical The Boys spin-off returns on 17th September 2025, and judging from the trailer, things are going from bad to “Homelander’s finger is hovering over the nuke button” worse.

Still set within the blood-spattered halls of Godolkin University, the series picks up as our not-so-merry band of super-powered students—Marie, Emma, Cate, Jordan, and Sam—make their triumphant and/or reluctant return to campus. Only now there’s a new headmaster in town: enter Hamish Linklater’s unnervingly chipper new dean, who appears to be less interested in moral education and more keen on turning the next generation of Supes into polished weapons of mass public relations.

Yes, while Homelander’s increasingly fascist shadow stretches across the continental United States like a deranged red-and-blue Goodyear blimp, our heroes (or perhaps “questionable protagonists” is more apt) stumble upon a clandestine program that could tip the scales in the brewing war between humanity and their genetically modified overlords. A war that, let’s face it, feels less metaphor and more likely every time Vought makes a press statement.

The series continues its tradition of unapologetically poking a stick into the open wounds of modern culture, from institutional corruption to fame addiction to—naturally—corporate superhero militarisation. And if the first series taught us anything, it’s that nobody graduates from Godolkin without trauma, body count, and a hefty therapy bill.

With the return of its charismatic leads (including Jaz Sinclair’s ever-bloodier Marie Moreau and Lizze Broadway’s shape-shifting girl-next-door-with-a-murder-streak Emma), Gen V season two looks set to deepen the show’s twisted coming-of-age themes while feeding us more of that signature blend of satire, viscera, and good old-fashioned “What did I just watch?” moments.

Here at SFcrowsnest magazine, we can only hope for more puppet-based horror sequences, exploding heads, and oddly tender moments amid the carnage. After all, what’s youth without a little trauma bonding over clandestine biological weaponry?

September can’t come soon enough. Or maybe it can. Depends how squeamish you are.
