Project: The Prisoner: The Village Technical Manual by Tim Palgut (book review)
Very occasionally, I tend to look around and see what ‘The Prisoner’ fandom puts out. Hence, coming across this softcover, ‘Project: The Prisoner: The Village Technical Manual’ by Tim Palgut. Actually, it’s more a book of technical illustrations of the Village and various aspects of it. Some of which is still classified. No doubt to ensure it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. There are some text pages but it does make for a short read.
A couple things that did raise any eyebrow. ROVER is now an acronym: Reactive Orang-alert Vigilant EnforceR. Not entirely sure if I would trust that but that there’s always been a certain amount of lying and dishonesty about the Village. The old peoples (no apostrophe) home doesn’t appear to have any lifts and only two stairwells. Clearly, the affirmed are not welcome here. It’s noted that the Village tends to have around 300 residents but doesn’t distinguish how many are prisoners. Everyone is watched.
There is also the traditional Village map and how much your units are worth for buying certain items. Obviously, more secret, is the underground tunnels so staff can get quickly to different parts of the Village. Of course, Number Two’s underground work chamber and why people move up and down on dollys and confirm when tracking any of the prisoners. There’s even something that looks like an IBM but who want to fire that one?
An odd curio but if you’re looking for a book to add to your Prisoner book collection, then its worth a look.
