David Farr, who adapted The Night Manager on BBC1 and scripted Amazon Prime Video’s Hanna, is adapting John Wyndham’s terrifying sci-fi classic The Midwich Cuckoos into an eight-part Sky series. Keeley Hawes and Max Beesely are among the cast members to look out for.

Midwich is a sleepy commuter town with nothing going on. That is, until late in the afternoon on a late summer day, when everyone in a certain region of town passes out. The strange episode seems to be brief, and those who were afflicted recover consciousness, but every woman of child-bearing age inside the zone has unexpectedly become pregnant. As the phenomenon’s offspring get older, it becomes evident that they are not of this world.
