How to get a better choice with DVD releases.
Hello everyone
There’s been some talk on the Net about how the UK invariably becomes second best with DVD releases that don’t have all the special extras the American version gets. Granted, we have had better editions over here. Season boxsets in the USA which are split up are sold as complete volumes over here so it isn’t always one way.
Checking UK and US Amazon, the versions of DVD of ‘Marvel Avengers Assemble’ are both single DVD, although the Blu-Ray has it and extras. If we wait a month or so, we’ll get the Special Edition on DVD.
Granted the average buyer might not want the extras but fans of our genre see this as part of the reason for buying. Some studios release both versions at the same time, leaving it to the buyer to choose which one, although I have pointed out in the past that the odd supermarket will sell both editions at the same price and you have to double-check the back cover in case you pick up the wrong one.
The best way to get a permanent change made is to remember these film companies understand money. Not giving them any is where it will hurt and wait for the arrival of the special edition. It’s very rare for blockbuster films not to have a special edition and if the sales go there, then that will have far more meaning.
