Phantasma Gothica Limited First Edition: The Dark Art Of Steve Stone (book review).

This book, ‘Phantasma Gothica Limited First Edition: The Dark Art Of Steve Stone’, really is  limited edition with only 95 copies available, the other 5 held back for Stone’s family members but don’t know how many are left. This volume is devoted to his love of gothic art and less text to make way for more art. Stone’s devotion to a limited palate is more apparent here. He hinted in his previous book, ‘Stone Nexus: A Genesis’, that he does 3D digital and the quality of the printing here, which is top class, does reveal that with his figure work. I’m less sure whether the clothes and hats/helmets these ladies wear is practical in any dimension but allowable in any fantasy reality. It would be interesting to know how long he takes on each piece. Stone is very effective with detail and his approach to the light source.

Copyright restrictions limits only to showing the cover here but I liked his ‘Black Widow’ on page 53 and his rather gold-tinted ‘All That Glistens’ on page 71 as a contrast to his other work. Really, though, they are all good quality. Get it while you can.
