Alien: Hissing Xenomorph & Illustrated Book [With Sound] (model and book review).

Within the three inch high green box, you get a wrapped xenomorph, 1 small 48 page mini-book and a single sheet telling you how to activate the sound. Very simply, if you press the lever down on its back, the first action is to extend his tongue and then 8 seconds of sound. I’m not sure if I would call it ‘hissing’ or whether the noise was in the original 1979 film but it’s certainly startling and loud. The base has a micro-screw opener for 3 micro-batteries that you should be able to replace fairly easy.

The xenomorph is essentially a rubbery plastic with a transparent shell extending over its head. If you ever saw the MPC model kit, then you’ll have the idea what it’s like. I hope the photos I took do it justice on-line. For some a small model, it’s nicely detailed and tactile.

Robb Carlman’s written booklet, despite its size, packs in a lot of stuff onto its thin card pages. A synopsis of the plot and quotes and photos from the film. Oddly, none of the stills features the cast, unless you count Jones the cat and the xenomorph themselves.

It would be interesting to see if Running Press do follow-ups with the actual cast. In the meantime, it’ll certainly catch the attention of any visitors who spot it.
